DPS Meter Megathread

Hope we see mechanics like that in Ashes. Pro-active player action is always more fun than reactionary (imo).

World Size Too Big?

You know that this game is owpvp, right? So in that context you gotta realize that your suggestion of "anyone can reach any place on the map within 20 minutes" will just mean that any zerg or strong group of players will be able to go to the same places you want to go to, except they can just run over you and your friends and you'll never experience that content in the first place. While with meaningful travel time, your local node might have good content (or you moved to a node with one) and there's only one ...

I wouldn't be. Steven repeats it every other stream "Ashes is not for everyone". The game has open world pvp (forced pvp. you can die in 99% of the world at any time at the hands of another player). The game will have limited resources. The game will have pve content that's gonna be beatable by only the top 10% of the playerbase. Flying content is meant for the top 10-20 people on a 10k server. Open seas is an auto-flag zone. Caravans, that are the main method of transporting goods, are pvp zones that anyone can attack and ...

Cleric Class Names should make more sense than they do.

We don't know which augment schools either bard or tank have. The naming scheme might make sense in that context.

Oh right, that's yet another "anti-popular" feature of the game. In other words, literally most of the game's design and features are targeted at a much smaller audience than you want it to be. The game has been in development for over 5 years now. And in that time one of the biggest changes has been the latest open seas change that made the game even more niche. So, unless you're trying to call Steven and all of Intrepid stupid, I'd assume you can see that they know what they're doing and what results those actions might lead to. ...

Those other archetypes can take the Tank as their secondary and do off-tanking if they want to. Weapons got nothing to do with it. We also have 0 info about the weapon skill tree. Though what we do know is that there won't be any NW-like weapon skills. And yes, anyone can use any weapon.

Throne and Liberty systems similar to AoC & Their twist on them

Didn't want to make a new thread for this, so necroposting. Some new footage from the game. Bosses seem zergable (was kinda obvious before) and those sieges made me hella nostalgic cause it looked 1-to-1 like L2's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgOGjLvM_MA And it seems you can play it with a controller so there's a potential for console play.

I don't want global chat because it'd be pointless. The sense of node-based community gets diluted because you can instead talk to the other 9.5k+ people on the server. The sheer spam of such a chat would be insane. And there'd be no functional use for that chat because you can't just go and party up with someone from the other continent. It's about "people don't know what they want, even if they say they do". Making people socialize with a smaller local group would lead to a better feeling of community and would provide each player with connections ...

By the looks of the combat in the video, it's just good ol' L2's stationary tab fighting.

Imo that's the job of the opposing/rival guild to have knowledge of such movements. If you're planning to kill a juicy boss right as he spawns, it's on you to have at least a few spies/scouts that would be monitoring potential routes of any enemies. A real zerg would be hard to miss.

Guess we'll have to see more of the game then. I'm too used to the BDO's style of action combat where everyone's moving and it's way more active, while that little mage fight at 0:41 looks static as fuck. And if I saw correctly the hp pot got autoused there, which pushes me towards the, now classic, korean design of autobattling pot-jugging mobile "mmos". And 0:37 fight also seems to indicate that, cause you can see the player spamming an ability while the healing pot goes off automatically (or at least seems to). And the small hourglass icon on ...

Were you, like, asking randoes on the server whether there was a zerg somewhere? Or how did the chat help you with that. Also, in my experience the zerg is usually used to clear content and not just run around like headless chickens. And if there's content to clear and you're in the striking distance of said content - imo, you should know its respawn timers and know who might attack it. Especially if it's a zerg guild who very rarely hide their intentions.

And melee classes usually have more hp/defense to make up for that matchup, so those few hits would still be in the range of "equal strength". Also, I'd expect melee players to spec into at least some kind of gap-closing ability. And if that PvEer is fine with risking his loot - it's the system working as intended. If you're a PvPer who's doing pve and see a potential attack approaching you and you want to show him that you're ready to fight for your spot - yes. If that "potential attacker" didn't mean to bother you, he definitely ...

Not too much of it tbh. But even that was waaay more active from what I remember of it. Or well, at least it seemed to be. And that's why I need to see more of the TL combat, and why I said that "from this video" it seemed quite static. Now, that's not to say I dislike it. Hell, I'm still waiting for the fucking LineageW to come out in the west, just so I have smth to kill time with. And that shit's a pure Lineage 1 continuation.

And this entire mechanic is present within the guild/node wars features. If you like pvping, you'll find a group of like-minded people (cause you'll have to). That group will be doing things that'll garner them some rivals and enemies. And then whatever you do will be under the threat of an attack from the enemy. Except, in case of wars, there's more meaning behind the fighting and people are signed up for it for as long as the war goes. And if your guild makes a reputation for themselves of being good pvpers, anyone else who's interested in pvping ...

if you want to be permaflagged - open seas exist. Go and find you random pvp fun. The game will have most of its valuable content be party-based. Any solo content would most likely be more casual-friendly or just artisanal stuff. If you're going out there "permaflagged", I'd assume you believe in your ability to win against other players, you probably have good or maybe even great gear and you're obviously in a mood for pvp. The majority of solo players will be just minding their own business and not thinking too much about any pvp encounters because they ...

How exactly do you suggest avoiding that cheese though? Most of the pvp will happen against the same people (the ones participating in the owpvp). You could have some sort of delay on the counter, but then what about combat resurrections? Would the counter not tick when you wipe the enemy party several times in a row? And the delay wouldn't stop someone from just waiting it out while grinding the pvps with a friend. In other words, I'm against this kind of feature cause I doubt there's a way to avoid the most obvious cheesing methods.

I meaaan, isn't Guild Wars related rewards already the rewards for killing people during said wars? Though depending on how they set up the war dec system, it might still not work. Even if it's purely achievements and nothing else, there'll be people who really want those achievements (namely me). They'll make the smallest possible guild that can be decced with their and their friends' alts and just farm that shit in no time. Steven already said that you can kill war enemies however much you want, so yeah. I could maaaybe see this kinda working with Node wars, ...

We have several chats, with the potential of being "global" already https://ashesofcreation.wiki/In_game_chat And we have node chat (which I hope is the "vassal system" chat), which would be the main means of communication with people who're in the near vicinity and could help you in reasonable amount of time instead of someone from the opposite continent who needs 40 minutes to get to you. I'm also planning on talking mainly in my node's chat instead of discord. I wanna be a mayor and provide people with company in-game and not in a 3rd party app. And this is exactly ...

Like I said, a delay will not stop the cheese. You'd only be crippling any good pvpers. I've had pvp sessions where I got dozens of pvp kills within minutes. At least 1/4 of those were on the same people, because the fight had a flow to it and they kept resurrecting. If there was a timer on how many tick of the counter I could've gotten there - I'd be upset, because the counter wouldn't represent my true skill.

Depending on how long it takes to delete an alt from your acc - it might take people from a few days to a year to go through a few hundred alts to get that kind of achievement. Even faster if you do this on a guild scale.

Corruption Question

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-28 17:21:48

That penalty is there not only to make deaths meaningful, but to encourage fighting back against gankers too. Say you lose 2% on death and at top lvls 2% is smth like 4h of farming mobs or repetitive quests. Flagging back up would not only give you a chance to survive, but would also assure that you'll only need to farm for half the time in case you do die. And even if the corruption gets removed from just one kill (if you're at a low PK count), that would still mean 16h of farming. Now obviously that might ...

Corruption Question

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-28 17:28:46

Pretty sure it's been there from the start (or at the very least from 2 years ago). The XP debt part of the stat dampening is different from the corruption's stat dampening, so you might've combined those together? But yes, when you have a lot of corruption your pvp stats will be dampened relative to how much corruption you have. But you'll be able to farm mobs just fine, because it's one of the ways to remove corruption.

How should AoC deal with streamers/youtubers uploading DPS parsing videos using 3rd party programs?

Post by Ludullu on 2022-09-29 06:58:45

I'd probably go with 3 strikes system. Slap on the hand and a warning, a week ban and a permaban. I'd mainly apply this to direct stream clips rather than analytical videos that Noaani mentioned. People will be analyzing gameplay and make videos about "best builds" based on the tools that they have to analyze the game with. Intrepid should know what kind of information the player is provided with by the game, so if the video shows info that couldn't be gathered from the basic combat log or purely through visuals of the game - I'd suggest copystriking ...

I think that whole thing is resolved by one line in the EULA, no? You just say "we have the right to ban you whenever we want for no reason at all" and you're safe as a company.
