How to balance tab vs action abilities

Post by Ludullu on 2022-07-06 21:25:52

If you're talking about the Dygz comment, I think you're just talking about different things. You mean that when you're in tab combat and have a target, your ability will always go towards your target so it will always "hit" it. What I think Dygz means is "when that tab ability hit the target, the dmg might not go through due to rng of evasion-to-accuracy equation", while in action it's usually "if you hit a dude with your action attack - you hit him". I haven't played enough BDO or other action games so I wanted to ask this ...

Does the healing reduce the gauge exponentially too? If I were to bring a dude to half health and then heal him back up, would I have reduced the gauge completely or would there be some overflow? I'm assuming it'd be overflow, right? But then what about just hitting and healing as a means of harassment. Your first hit doesn't give as much gauge so the heal should reduce it completely, if I understood this correctly. Could the gauge have a hit-relative-to-hplost weight to it too? This could also positively effect differently-geared people.

Steven said they'll have multiple ability bars, so in theory you'll be able to go through all of your skills if you want to. It'll just take more pianoing The only way I could see Intrepid reaching the pve lvls that I want them to reach within the limitations of speech-related callouts would be their own ventrilo-like voip (mb TS has it too, don't remember), where you can have multiple levels of channel talking. Iirc discord doesn't have this. Have a party lvl room, class room (for synergy abilities that I would love to see but might not be ...

Fuck it. I suggest having a whole OSU track playthrough for each instance of crafting. No matter what you're crafting you gotta get a perfect score on some random OSU track. And the higher in crafting lvl you go, the harder the tracks. I think that would be the perfect test of skill and would definitely not get annoying to do each time you craft some small piece of material

This highly depends on how you balance the entire system. If you can make the final item better by minigaming each crafting step on the way to that final item - it's gonna be tedious. And I know for sure that top lvl guilds will require you to craft everything at highest possible lvl. And if we consider 10 items per person (at the very least) per gear tier for 40 people in a guild (that is if the guild is the smallest possible and not a 300+ one) and god knows how many crafts per item - it ...

And that is why I don't want minigames in crafting. Can't even imagine carfting hundreds and thousands of items through minigame Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how they balance the rarity of all the resources. They need to find a very tight balance of "not too many, yet enough".

This is an old one so dunno if this is still the case, but there will be dungeon/raid leaderboards. Dunno how exactly they gonna have those set up cause most dungeons will be open world, so you can get fucked by pvp - but there will be leaderboards. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Leader_boards

Got no clue what it even has for features. I'm following Ashes for its gameplay (mainly L2's pvp) and could not care less what combat will be. Even if they somehow go full action, I'll just get used to it. But none of that matter because different people have different preferences. I've seen countless people say that WoW's combat is so fluiiiid and so respoooonsive, but to me it felt like utter shite. And I'm sure that a ton of people will puke from playing L2, but I love its controls and how it plays. Preferences.

Again though, it's just a preference. I'm sure there's enough people who highly dislike AA's or Rift's combat and we've got me right here who dislikes WoW's. And, from what I've seen of EQ2, it seems as active as L2, while still having planted combat animations. And to me planted animations also feel quite nice and fluid, mainly because animators probably had an easier time animating them and could make them look way more fluid than action games because it's easier to make one good animation instead of several directional animations (at least that's how it seems to me). ...

Waiting to see what they show. If it's f2p and available to me - definitely gonna at least try it. I'm 99% sure it's gonna be a p2w piece of shit, even if the game itself is semi-decent, so if it costs money - I ain't supporting that shit. It was supposed to be L3 back in the day (along with several other games) so I hope they manage to have a good game, but I really don't trust NCsoft to make a well-balanced non-p2w game.

All those things are still affected by the dungeon being open world. You went through early bosses in shitty gear? Well, get fucked because another group messed up your timing on the last boss. Or at any other moment during the dungeon clearing. Being open world could potentially mess up the entire leaderboard so I'm really interested in seeing how they're gonna get around that issue. Or if they even consider that an issue.

Question about crafted items from the June Update

Post by Ludullu on 2022-07-07 17:48:42

If you're going to be in a guild, just have a guild crafter and pool all resources onto him and craft all the things you need. Done so countless times in L2.

Funny seeing this kind of argument after several people super deep into tab games have told you that they felt that combat in those games felt fluid. You haven't played those games as much as those people, yet you yell about it not being fluid just because you've watched a few videos on them.

My Dream for Crafting...

Post by Ludullu on 2022-07-07 19:24:54

From what I understand of the planned system, you'll be crafting several things before the final item, so this minigame would only impact ~<10% of the overall crafting? So you're not really removing tediousness of pressing a button and looking at the bar move. And that is exactly why I don't want minigames. It's about scale and relative amount of crafting per crafter. Guild will have just a few crafters, each specializing in some sub-branch of the system. Each of those crafters will be crafting those specific things for their entire guild (40+ people). So it's, at the very ...

Question about crafted items from the June Update

Post by Ludullu on 2022-07-07 19:30:40

I mean, to me that sounds like a guild's own issue rather than a systematic one. If a guild can't properly figure out and agree on a particular gear distribution way - that's a bad guild imo. And if the leadership hordes all the gear - I just leave with my party and now that guild is weaker because of me doing so.

You've played hundreds and thousands of hours of EQ2/L2/FF11? I don't remember you ever mentioning that. You keep complaining about gcds slowing down combat and making it way less fluid, yet L2 didn't have a single shred of gcd and literally worked like an action game: you're locked in an animation of an ability; you can cancel out of that animation any time you want and cast smth else immediately. I dunno how EQ2 or FF11 were cause I haven't played them, but I trust Noaani and Azherae if they say it felt fluid to them (though I don't ...

Yeah, and I didn't play shadowbane so I dunno how it was. But I played ~30h of wow classic tbc. And you know what I hated literally the second I started playing? THE FUCKING GCD I came from over 10 years of a tab game and the first thing I hated in another tab game (that allegedly has amazing and fluid combat, according to a ton of people on the internet) was the god damn gcd. Your generalization of all tab games only puts you into a bad spot in these arguments.

I dunno cause I haven't played those. But that's not even my main point here. My experience was unique in some way, just as yours or Noaani's or Azherae's. And I respect any of those experiences enough to trust those people when/if they say "to me this part of the game felt fluid". I mainly rely on their words exactly because I haven't played those games extensively myself. But they have. You seem to have not played those games either, yet you base your whole argument on completely different games you've played. This doesn't only show a very narrow-minded ...

The biggest argument against this that I can see is literally being as old as Dygz and just having enough time in your life to have played several great mmos for 5++ years each. Though even then, we've only got, what, around 25-30 years of "mmos"? So it's not like you could play too many of them. But yeah, even when I was starting out with L2, I tried perfect world, I tried just a bit on aion, a bit of MU online, some BDO later on, some B&S and was thinking of trying AA too - but through ...

Yeah, and Noaani has said that he's played a ton of mmos too, yet iirc EQ2's rogue gameplay felt the most fluid to him. Azherae already answered this. And you then told multiple people (iirc) that they have no idea what "fluid combat means". To me that sounds like "only I know what it means and if you disagree with my subjective opinion - you're objectively wrong". I mean, you've given EQ2 the same amount of effort I gave smth like Perfect World back in the day. You've tried it out for less than an hour, supported your preconceived ...

I'm curious and I don't remember if you've mentioned it before, but have you played WoW at all? It was literally the biggest mmo out there and I've heard countless people praise its combat for its fluidity and responsiveness. If you disagree with that, you'd be arguably objectively wrong because more people enjoyed that game's combat than BDO's one. And if you agree than you'd agree that tab games with gcd can be fluid. Seems like a bit of a catch 22 to me.

Ah, so you have played wow, now I'm definitely interested in the response. And if I remember combat in all these games correctly, this is roughly 50/50 tab to Action/hybrid. With most newer games being action. Now I think I understand the basis of your opinion a bit more.

I don't see a gcd. I'd need @Noaani to explain this video a bit more, but I can't see the skills on the panel all refreshing together when one is used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zR4qAR6RRN4 edit: it seems that some of skills trigger smth similar to a gcd, but it's so short and doesn't seem to impact all the skills, that I can't see it being that impactful on the gameplay as a whole at that lvl.

I mean, he literally says "the proposal is that it's not necessarily a minigame". And he's also talking about processing and not crafting, so we have no info on crafting minigames. Hitting a button once to "pour some water on the hot metal" is not really a minigame. At least imo.
